WHO WE ARE 
Lismore Meals on Wheels Services Inc (Lismore MOW) is funded by the Australian Government, Department of Social Services under the Commonwealth Home Support Program.
Lismore MOW provides food services to eligible frail aged, older people aged over 65 and frail aged, older Aboriginal people over 50 and people with a disability living in the Lismore local government area and surrounding villages such as Nimbin, Wollongbar and Alstonville.

Lismore MOW is a not for profit organisation which is registered as a Public Benevolent Institution Charity and is an Incorporated Association under the Fair Trading Act.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Eligible recipients* to the Commonwealth Home Support Program are:
  • Frail, older people aged 65 years and over;
  • Frail older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples 50 years and over;
  • People with a disability;
    Carers of the above.

     *who need assistance with daily living to remain living independently at home and in the community.


WHAT AREA DO WE COVER?
Lismore MOW provides nutritious food services to the Lismore LGA and surrounding villages such as Nimbin, Wollongbar and Alstonville.  If Lismore MOW does not service your area, our friendly staff shall refer you to the relevant Meals on Wheels Service.

SERVICES PROVIDED
The Lismore MOW can provide a CHILLED meal service for clients who will not be home for a hot meal delivery or who may require more than one meal per day. Meals are delivered in Lismore 5 days a week.

Clients who require weekend meals can request a 2 day chill meals pack which will be delivered on Friday along with the usual hot Friday meal. This pack will meet the client’s lunch requirements over the weekend period. Meals are delivered by Volunteers each day between 11.30am and 1.30pm.

Clients living outside the Lismore area are able to receive frozen meal packages delivered once a week or meal packages can be picked up from our office between the hours of 9.30am and 1.30pm.

Meals are delivered in the Alstonville area Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Clients can have a cold meal pack for the following day if required. Clients who require weekend meals can request a 2 day chill meals pack which will be delivered on Friday along with the usual meal.

VOLUNTEERS
Lismore MOW Volunteers are the backbone of the Service, without them the service would not operate. Please remember that Lismore MOW Volunteers donate their time to deliver meals. Not only do they assist in providing a nourishing meal they also provide warmth and social interaction with Clients each day. Therefore, we ask Clients to treat all Volunteers in a respectful and courteous manner.

Volunteers contribute by either delivering meals to clients or contributing to the Management Committee. Lismore MOW is managed by a voluntary Management Committee which meets every third Wednesday of each month at 9.00am at the Goonellabah Community Centre.

Volunteers who deliver meals work to a 4 week rotating roster agreed to by the Volunteer. Volunteers use their own vehicles to deliver meals and are given a reimbursement for petrol costs.


HOW TO BECOME A CLIENT
From the 1st of July 2015, all new clients over the age of 65 or Aboriginal people over 50, will need to call My Aged Care to be assessed and referred to Lismore MOW. Operating hours are Monday to Friday 8.00am to 8.00pm and Saturday 10.00am to 2.00pm.

COST  
Lismore MOW provides a nutritious, affordable meal service to eligible clients under the Commonwealth Home Support Program.
A variety of meal options are available to our Clients and the costs are as follows:  

Main Meal $7.00 + Sweet $1.50 + Juice .50c                    $9.00

Main Meal only                                                                   $7.00

Main meal $7.00 + Soup Pack $2.20 + Juice .50c             $9.70

Soup Pack (1 soup + 1 bread roll & butter)                       $2.20



HOW DO I PAY
Client fees are collected to ensure the ongoing continuity of the organisation to service the community and those in need.  A variety of payment options are available to clients to accommodate individual requirements and provide flexibility.

Clients may pay via


  • Cash;

  • Cheque; and or

  • Electronic Fund Transfer.

You will provided with a receipt when you have paid your account.

If you are having difficulty paying your account or would like to make a complaint about your fees, please call the Operations Manager on 6624 8215.

CANCELLATIONS
We understand your circumstances may change, therefore please let us know straight away if you no longer need your meal service by calling the office on 02 6624 8215.

CHANGING NEEDS  
We provide an individualised service based on your needs and from time to time your needs will change. This could be as simple as a change of address, financial changes or maybe if your health or disability improves or deteriorates.  To help us meet your needs you are encouraged to let us know when things change,.
